Education:
Dr. Cunningham earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Nanjing University and completed her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Educational and Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri in the United States.
Clinical Experience:
Dr. Cunningham holds licenses as a psychotherapist from the National Health Commission (3022022073101007119) and as a Clinical Psychologist in Indiana, USA(20043311A). She has accumulated over 15 years of clinical experience, and has previously worked at the Mental Health Department of Shanghai international-standard medical and healthcare institute, where she is well-versed in crisis assessment/intervention and treatments for various clinical diagnoses. During her time in the United States, Dr. Cunningham received comprehensive clinical training at several school and community mental health centers and served as the lead of the Eating Disorders Treatment Team at the University of Illinois Counseling Center, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders. Dr. Cunningham is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and has published research in psychology journals including the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education. In addition to her clinical work, she is also dedicated to provide clinical supervision and psychological training to counselors and students, and provides educational lectures for corporations, schools, and the broader community.
Specialization:
Dr. Cunningham provides individual psychotherapy and group therapy for children, adolescents, and adults, as well as couples counseling and family consultation focusing on parent-child relationships.
For adults, Dr. Cunningham’s areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, trauma and stress-related disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), perinatal psychological issues, familial and relational issues, and identity and cross-cultural issues.
For children and adolescents, Dr. Cunningham is committed with issues related to school refusal, behavioral and emotional issues, parent-child conflicts, and neurodiversity concerns such as ASD and ADHD.
Theoretical Orientations: Dr. Cunningham employs an integrative approach in her work basing on human-centered approach while incorporating Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Play Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). She tailors personalized treatment plans to meet clients’ developmental needs and help facilitate their growth.
